Wart is a benign formation on the skin. According to medical terminology it is called condyloma. As a rule, warts are caused by a virus. Usually not only adolescents and children, but also adults can have this infection. In most cases it is passed directly from one person to another. Small wounds, excessive sweating, trauma caused by skin lesions or mental distress may lead to the development of this disease.

The incubation period approximately lasts for 5 months. There are numerous home remedies for warts removal, as well as medical intervention.

Kinds of Warts

Before you start finding a solution on how to remove warts at home, you should identify what kinds they can be. There are common, flat, pointed, hpv warts and warts on feet, or warts on hands.

  • Common warts are tight and painless papules of a rounded shape of 3 to 10 millimeters in diameter. Their surface is a bit rough; the skin color does not change at all or becomes grayish-brown. Usually they are the warts on hands or on fingers. There can also be warts on face and hairy part of the head;
  • Flat warts are smaller in size. They are body-colored papules that sometimes may have a slightly yellow color. Their surface is very smooth and they extrude slightly above the skin level. As usual they appear on hands;
  • Pointed condylomata have pointed shape, that’s where their name comes from. Such papules are characterized by rapid expansion; as a result, they form something like a “cauliflower” on the skin. Pointed warts can be of bright pink or lighter color;
  • The papules that appear on the genitals are called hpv warts. Their appearance can be caused by the long-term irritation or maceration of the skin cover;
  • In other words warts on feet are called plantar warts. Perhaps they can be the most troublesome, as while walking they usually cause pain. Nevertheless, their treatment can also be made by home remedies for plantar warts removal.

Considering the methods of getting rid of warts by home remedies, it should be mentioned that there are other ways to cope with this problem. There are both traditional and popular methods. At the health center the doctor may suggest wart freezing or different lubrications. This disease can clear up on its own, in case the immunity of the person improves.

To remove warts manually you can try different home remedies. However, there are also suggestions to remove warts with the help of magic rituals. An adequate person may consider their usefulness doubtful. However, if placebo helps, why shouldn’t you do magic with the wart. But if we go serious, there are many home remedies for warts.

There is a lot of methods of how to remove warts at home. As a rule, the main components of the treatment are such natural products as plants, vegetables, herbs and oils. Here are some recommendations on how to use these them to remove warts as quickly as possible.

Aloe or Kalanchoe Leaves

Apply soda solution (for a glass of warm water take one teaspoon of baking soda) to the wart for 10 minutes. Then put a freshly cut aloe leaf (its pulp) over the wart and fix it. This can be done with the help of a bandage or adhesive plaster. Put such applications for a few hours, preferably overnight. While you are having rest, the compress is “working”. The treatment course consists of 7-10 daily procedures. You can also use kalanchoe leaves in the same way. Those leaves can be simply ground to slurry before use as they are very thin.


Celandine is considered to be the mean of suppressing the growth of “wrong” cells. Lubricating the lesions with celandine juice can be the quickest of home remedies for wart removal. It is simple to use this herb: just break off a piece of the plant and lubricate the warts with protruding yellow juice. In the course of such treatment the wart must be constantly anointed with the juice and cut with nail scissors. The condyloma will turn black, and after some time it will completely disappear.

The disadvantage of this method of warts treatment is that the celandine doesn’t grow in the big cities (and if it grows somewhere in the yard, you should not use it because of high pollution). However, this method of getting rid of warts is so well-proven, that you can buy the medication with celandine at any pharmacy: its extract or ointments containing it.


Use acetic acid to remove warts. Put a drop of acid on the wart in the evening before bedtime. Be careful as it can cause skin burns. To avoid them, the following method of acetic acid usage can be applied. Take a strip of adhesive tape, cut a small hole in it for the wart. Seal the location of the wart so that the wart itself can be seen through the hole. Such way of acetic acid usage will be safer.

Add some flour to the acetic acid and make a small pastille. Put the freshly prepared pastille on the wart every day until it dries and drops off.

Please note that after this method of home remedies for wart removal some small scars may remain. Thus, avoid using acetic acid to get rid of facial warts.

One more solution for warts removal is raw onion, soaked in double vinegar. Put it to the defect overnight and fix it with an adhesive plaster: after a few days the wart will drop off with its root.

You can use these home remedies for wart removal when you have warts on hands or warts on feet. Applying vinegar to treat warts on face, neck or chest is not recommended.

The more gentle way to remove warts is garlic infused with cider vinegar. Take 3-4 crushed cloves of garlic, pour with a half glass of cider vinegar. Decoct in a tightly sealed container for two weeks. Use the decoction as a compress for at least two times a day until the warts disappear.


Garlic itself is a very good medicine. It cleans the blood vessels and dissolves the cholesterol plaques. Garlic is a good antiviral agent, thus, it may treat warts effectively (because warts’ nature is a human papilloma virus).

Peel the clove of garlic and cut in half. Rub the warts with each half 1-2 times a day.

Home treatment of warts can include garlic ointment. Make a slurry of peeled cloves of garlic. Mix one teaspoon of the slurry with one teaspoon of melted lard or butter and four teaspoons of cider vinegar. Put such ointment on the wart overnight, fixing it with a bandage or an adhesive plaster.

Castor Oil

Castor oil is another of very effective home remedies for wart removal. This oil has a large number of medicinal properties. Also it has a positive effect on skin and subcutaneous tissue, especially in case of warts removing. Castor oil contains the acid that irritates the wart and leads to its disappearing.

Rub the castor oil onto the warts every morning and evening for 10 minutes during 5 days.

One more way to use castor oil to get rid of warts is to dissolve baking soda in castor oil to the consistency of thick slurry. Then, lubricate the warts with this mixture every day till they drop off.

Essential Oils

General conditions for any oils usage are no allergy or aversion to their smell. Before using an essential oil, mix it with a vegetable oil in equal proportions, put this liquid on the bend of elbow and watch the skin reaction. If there is no skin irritation, do not hesitate to use the essential oil. They are numerous to choose from:

  • Pine or lemon oil: lubricate the warts several times a day till the full recovery;
  • Patchouli or hyssop oil: put it on a bactericidal plaster and apply it to the wart. Take a fresh patch every day;
  • Tea tree, arborvitae, thyme or eucalyptus oil: treat the warts two or three times a day by lubricating them with the oil.

Another option is to dissolve tea tree oil and table salt in warm water: take five liters of water, two drops of oil, and a teaspoon of salt. Every night before going to bed, do soaks for hands or feet for ten to fifteen minutes. Recommended duration of procedures is from five to ten days.


Rub a thoroughly washed crude potato on a grater. Rub the top leaf: the jacket and the layer underneath. Make compresses with the resulting slurry: put it on the wart, and fix it with the compress paper or polyethylene. Such compress should be done overnight not less than for three to four weeks.

Home remedies for wart removal does not require the purchase of expensive drugs. They are cheap and available. To get the good result you need patience, as home remedies for warts are not fast methods of dealing with this disease. Also, the virus remains in the body, so it is better to prevent it from activating and new warts from appearing by strengthening your immunity.

There are some tips that will help you to avoid getting the infection that leads to warts:

  1. Follow the strict adherence to personal hygiene;
  2. Stick to a balanced diet, including all vitamins;
  3. Learn how to fight stress and relax.

In addition, it is worth mentioning that there are cases when home remedies do not help. If after a few weeks of treating the wart with a home remedy you observe no results, and even more lesions appear, it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor.

If you have not consulted a doctor about warts, but noticed that they began to change (their feeling, color, size or shape), you should immediately visit a dermatologist. You might need to consult an oncologist, because in some cases warts can become malignant. Such cases are quite rare, but examination will not hurt you.
